WEST Brewery Templeton Range
Project Overview //
Our work for WEST Brewery Templeton Range involved creating a distinctive visual identity and packaging design that celebrates the brewery’s 18-year history in Glasgow’s iconic Templeton Building. The project was created to mark this milestone with a design system that felt ownable, premium and deeply connected to WEST Brewery’s historic home.
The project focused on developing a seamless pattern design inspired by the Templeton Building’s architectural details, specifically the vibrant brickwork and interior chevron patterns that make the structure so recognisable. These elements helped shape a distinctive beer packaging design for WEST Brewery Templeton Range that feels rooted in place, heritage and character.
As WEST Brewery approached its 18th birthday milestone, the aim was to launch a trio of limited-edition beers that would pay homage to the rich heritage of the Templeton Building while celebrating the brewery’s long-standing connection to one of Glasgow’s most iconic locations.
The Brand //
We developed a visual identity for the Templeton Range that authentically connects WEST Brewery to its architectural home whilst acknowledging its Bavarian brewing heritage. The seamless pattern we designed incorporates the iconic building motifs and distinctive chevron patterns found inside the brewery.
As a thoughtful nod to WEST Brewery’s Bavarian roots, we integrated the classic check element from the Bavarian flag into the repeating design. The resulting pattern adorns the trio of limited-edition beer cans, creating a striking visual that immediately evokes the vibrant brickwork of the Templeton Building. This design approach successfully bridges WEST’s German brewing traditions with its Glasgow location, specifically referencing architect William Leiper’s Venetian-inspired design (modelled after Doge’s Palace) that makes the building such a prominent fixture on Glasgow Green. The Templeton Range packaging design celebrates this “iconic fixture in Glasgow” as described by WEST’s managing director Matt Munro, ensuring the brewery’s continued legacy within one of the city’s most beloved architectural landmarks whilst marking their significant 18-year milestone.
